LibraryThing Books Site
I've added a link (at right) to my new LibraryThing page. LibraryThing is one of these rather simple ideas that somehow, when coupled with the power of the internet, actually produce interesting results (moral of the story: if you have a simple idea for the internet, it might actually be worth some serious $$!).
Anyway, LibraryThing allows you to catalog your books online. This seems pretty pointless, but the interesting part is that you can then find other people who have the same books, and not only network with them but also browse their catalogs, and find stuff, potentially, of interest to yourself.
You might want to try it out with a few of your more unusual/unique books just to find if anyone else out there has the same ones. They have a list of the top 100 books, and the top 6 or so are all Harry Potter. I think nearly all the top 100 are fiction, and while I've read several, I 'm not sure I own any of the top 100! I may have a copy of 1984 or one or two others around somewhere ... and I have a lot of books.
It just goes to show that the "long tail" as they call it, is actually the more interesting place to be on the internet. I grew up being pretty nearly the only space geek in my school (in Space City USA, no less), so I know how important it can be to be able to know there are others out there with similar interests.
